Heartstopper Volume 1: The million-copy bestselling series, now on Netflix! (English Edition) Kindle版
*Now a live-action Netflix series!* Boy meets boy. Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. Heartstopper is the bestselling LGBTQ+ graphic novel: this new edition - with a cover including Alice Oseman's artwork and photographs showing characters from the Netflix show - also contains exclusive pages from Alice's original TV scripts.
'Absolutely delightful. Sweet, romantic, kind. Beautifully paced. I loved this book.' RAINBOW ROWELL, author of Carry On
Charlie and Nick are at the same school, but they've never met ... until one day when they're made to sit together. They quickly become friends, and soon Charlie is falling hard for Nick, even though he doesn't think he has a chance.
But love works in surprising ways, and Nick is more interested in Charlie than either of them realised.
By Alice Oseman, winner of the YA Book Prize, Heartstopper is about love, friendship, loyalty and mental illness. It encompasses all the small stories of Nick and Charlie's lives that together make up something larger, which speaks to all of us.
'The queer graphic novel we wished we had at high school.' Gay Times
This is the TV tie-in edition of the first volume of Heartstopper.

I first started reading Heartstopper twice a month on Tumblr, and I had been worried about returning to the story from the beginning after so many years, because of all the associations of the past. But as with the Netflix show, what stands out to me is how much of a comfort this story offers. I remember craving updates, day by day, getting through knowing there would be more Charlie, and needing to know what happens next for him and Nick with visceral desperation.
Alice Oseman does a great job at expressing so much with so few words, and the art is minimalist yet emotionally striking. Certain panels stand out for me, like Charlie's internal anxious thoughts; and his expressions whenever he's faced with confrontations with Ben; and when Nick defends Charlie; and the final panels with the flowers at Harry's party. It's an utterly beautiful comic and a beautiful story, the first chapters of something so special in my heart. It's a comic you could read in less than an hour, or which you could spend hours pouring over every single detail, and both would be a rewarding experience. In Volume 1 I loved getting to meet Nick and Charlie; Tori's cameos; Nellie; and the first introduction of Tara and Darcy!

This book met ALL my expectations, lived up to and surpassed the hype and has nestled itself into my stoney heart. As this is a Graphic Novel I can't make any comments on the writing style. But the conversation exchanges between characters just felt so genuine and real.
Like, this is the book that all Young Adults need to be reading, I love that there is representation in this book, I love that it shows two different young men figuring themselves and life out. Showing the struggles young people can go through as they grow to understand their sexuality. This to me, is one of those important reads, and because it's not continuous pros but a graphic novel it can be so much more easily received and digested. I read this in the space of a couple of hours and instantly order Volume 2.
Charlie and Nick are beyond adorable, from two different "cliques" and two different year groups. You could easily imagine these being people you went to school with.
All the drawings throughout this book were spot on and it was really clear what was happening and when. Also, what the characters were feeling/experiencing.
I will say this until I'm blue in the face. This is a book everyone needs to read. It's a book that can start conversations and a book to normalise different sexualities to the YA audience as having a book with non-straight characters can still be a rare thing to see. I think books like Heartstoppers, gives YA members of the LGBTQ+ a place in the reading world, it gives them representation. And my personal opinion is that there needs to be more representation, more reality that these YA face. One of the gifts of reading a book is being able to see yourself in some characters, I think this book allows everyone the chance to see themselves whether they are straight or a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
I definitely give this 5 stars, probably more if I could just on the sheer cuteness of the characters.

I truly adored it.
"Boy meets boy.
Boys become friends.
Boys fall in love."
This is the simple equation of love, though, the gay factor can complicate things a bit.
Charlie is a year 10 (14 yo) in an all boys grammar school. He is openly gay (not by choice, he was outed a year ago), he is an overthinker and then he meets shy and cute Nick Nelson, rugby captain.
They become close, they become friends and then come the challanges.
Confused sexuality, coming-out, coming-out as a couple, saying the 'l' word for the first time. And... tons of awkwardness and cutness.
I had a huge smile on my face while reading this. It was just so real. The uncertainities that come with a new relationship, the extra cuteness that come from the pure heart of the two main characters. The lovely side characters who have their own little story to tell. It all adds up to a loveable story.
The emotions were extreme sometimes and seeing them through pictures and not just reading them made it more real and closer somehow. I saw the heartache. I saw the joy. I saw the struggle. And I saw the all consuming young love.
The drawing and art is amazing! The story flaws perfectly and the meaningful parts are emphasized just enough to get lost in it. Besides the conversations, the thoughts of the two boys are depicted as well with some memories and fantasies.
I fell in love with Nick and Charlie on the first page and couldn't stop until around a thoudand pages later when I ran out of published content.
(I now follow the story online and wait for every update like it's my next breath.❤)
I wish this story could reach every teen who struggles with coming out and managing life as a gay person.
Really, just give this to every boy out there.

The illustrations are fantastic! I’m obsessed with the different layouts in this book. It’s really made me want to get back into illustration myself for a start. Also the book itself is so 🤤. I’m obsessed with the size of this book, the cover is so smooth and the pastel cover is dreamy. They’re stunning books! 😍
Charlie and Nick are both just so loveable, I could really tell their characters in every page. It a VERY easy read, so little text I actually didn’t feel like I was in a book, it felt more like a tv show. Oseman did an amazing job writing and illustrating a teen romance. But even better an LGBTQ+ romance! Woohoo. It’s SO cute! Like cuter than any romance novel I’ve read this year for sure. 🥰
I’m desperate to read the next book but I also REALLY don’t want to finish the series, I won’t know what to do with myself. There’s a reason this book is hyped. I urge everyone, reader or not, to grab the first volume. You need this pair in your life. 👬 @lifeonasofa
REVIEW FOR AMAZON NOT THE BOOK
My copy arrived in such bad quality, the pages were cut all choppy. They were red along the bottom where the guide marks hadn’t been followed. It wouldn’t even sit flat on my shelf. I ordered a second one and returned my first, the second was even worse! I ended up buying from somewhere else and they arrived fine. Ive had to return several Amazon books, they just arrive so beaten.

Heartstopper is the kind of book that should be read by everyone. It is the graphic novel that will make you understand relationships that beyond the heterosexual ones and just the thing that is needed in 2019. Just the thing that was needed way before.
I can’t wait for the second volume to reach me. Alice Oseman gets the vibe of the teenagers. The confusion, the heartbreak, the acceptance, and the bullying. The relationship between Nick and Charlie took me back to a time when I was in school and in love. It is the kind of book that will remind you of what it is to be young or what it was. A super book. I love it.
