The book is terrible. There is a lot of fantasy and mixed current events. The writer writes extremely long sentences and that made the book more boring.
I didn't understand the random references to action that had nothing to do with the plot, but that may have been the point. The "doors" illusion was spotty. I wouldn't recommend the book to anyone.
Focusing on the symbolism and nature of relationships made the story interesting. However the vehicle used, that is the sci-fi element, was disarming and distracting.
I have to say I felt the book was a big story which was not executed properly. The book touches on lots of heavy topics but he doesn't develop them enough. There is no real journey, and it feels as if the author wanted to talk about war, religious beliefs, weed smoking, sexual interactions, and sexual orientation etc but it felt as if he had just started to brainstorm to then write a beautiful bigger story. Lots of the details of the journey these two people may have gone through were omitted as if how they got to everyplace was not really important. I felt cheated at the end of the book.
